*sidenote: I am not vegan, although my food choices seem to show otherwise, but I am lactose intolerant, and am dealing with a daily struggle of not cosuming dairy. Lactaid is not an option people, I simply must omit the dairy.

nom noms
Some recent food hits in le cafe petite (aka, my tiny kitchen).
Nutella and sunflower butter spread with a heavy hand over rice cakes and topped with my rapidly ripening bananas. I've also tried a combo of tofutti cream cheese and strawberries atop rice cakes, with equally delicious results.
I've recently concoted a gardenburger that I am exceptionally happy with, on which I put every vegetable available in my fridge, including (but not exlusive to): cherry tomatoes, romaine lettuce, red peppers, cucumbers, vegenaise, mustard, avocado, and a whole mess of black pepper. Also a bit of snap peas with dairy free ranch to round it all out.
I did not create this cookie (although I wish I did), but I have been totally hooked on these vegan tofu cookies, which I thought would be disgusting, but they're so tasty! They are a little paler than your typical cookie, but the taste does not disappoint.

blog alert
Everyday I look at tons of blogs. Literally, TONS. And some look the same or feel the same and blah blah blah blog robotz, but I've found a new favorite which focuses on the pure awesomeness of breakfast. It's called My Breakfast Blog, and it has amazing pictures and recipes of all things delicious, breakfast, and lovely. I've been scrolling through old posts for quite a while now, and I am seriously craving breakfast, wishing I could still eat Greek Yogurt, wanting to buy Sunflower Butter, and thinking I need to get some cuter dishes. I love you breakfast blog.

snow way
i had all sorts of plans set for today, errands and shopping and groceries, the works! but when i peeped my head out of bed and saw the snow piling up the side of my window, i decided to just clear the day. so after lurking over the balcony on a dog fight and people's feeble attempts to move their cars, i crept back into my cave and brought out my unseasonably bright kitchen aid. i whipped up some cookies to cure the cabin fever, but now my head is full of all sorts of kitchen aid possibilities. cakes, mashed potatoes, cakes! i have also come to the conclusion, that while there are hundreds of thousands of chocolate chip recipes that exist, some rustic and some fancy shmancy frou frou business, you just can't beat the recipe on the back of the nestle tollhouse bag. it's just so right.
of course i haven't cleaned up or done anything useful, but i did find out how to make corn nuts, watched half of cool hand luke, and played 3 small sessions of borderlands. my most productive snow day so far this year. i should be catching up on all this couture stuff, but if i see another re-post of pictures from style.com, i might have to ban myself from my google reader. in other news, the apartment below us is getting me high off of their weed smoking that is wafting through my floorboards.

oh she may be weary
i am so beat. after having worked 24 hours, i feel like i now truly understand the meaning of the word exhaustion. so i'm giving myself a pass card for the personal pictures today, but i do have some nice things via swissmiss that would perk up any tired soul such as mine.

tea sub & cocoa clouds. or you could put them in your coffee and sing 'you're so vain'.

yum yums
after a long hiatus of generally staying out of the kitchen, as of late i'm making something of a comeback to cooking. but after several casserole dishes come and gone, i thought i'd move on to something that at least contained some meat, so last night i tried my hand at adobo, a particular comfort food of mine. i'm always weary about cooking filipino food, because if it goes awry i feel like a total failure ( i have less attachments to cakes or cookies), so after calling my parents a thousand times for specific instructions ("so i know it says brown the chicken, but mine is turning yellow?"), i let the dish simmer and i just walked away. or stood there and watched it simmer for twenty minutes, whatever. but after the blood, sweat, and tears

success! success in the form of chicken dotted with peppercorns!
follow the link to the recipe. it's simple and seemed to be pretty true to how my parents cook it. hooray!
